Friendship activities are a key component youth mentoring program for children and families impacted by cancer. Walk With Sally hosts quarterly group friendship activities with all mentoring friendships, their families, and prospective families as well. The goal is to provide an educational and experiential day-long event while offering all participants a sense of community. And most importantly give families the chance to just have FUN.
These activities have included the Gentle Barn, Whale Watching at the Ocean Institute, and Surfing & Ocean Healing (in partnership with the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation) at El Porto Beach.
California Beach
Each year Walk With Sally partners with the incredible team at the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation to create a day of fun, hope and healing for mentors, mentees and families impacted by cancer. Together at the beach, our mentees learn how the ocean (and surfing) can help them heal from past trauma, while also participating in other fun group activities throughout the course of the day.
FULCRUM ADVENTURES
My mentee was fearful in her first time walking the high beam, but was so confident the second time around. It was beautiful to see her enthusiasm and self-confidence.
Team building and leadership skills are a great way to help heal and work through incredibly difficult times. Walk With Sally has teamed up with Fulcrum Activities for a day full of fun and challenging activities including the High Ropes Challenge Course. This was a great way to get our Friendships out of their comfort zones and work together!
Los Angeles, California
It’s important for Walk With Sally to create a festive opportunity for Friendships and families to come together to celebrate the holidays. Recently we’ve had the opportunity to join together at L.A. Live for ice skating, a movie, and even an appearance by Santa himself!
