El Segundo, CA, Feb 27, 2015 – Today, one in four parents or guardians are diagnosed with cancer every year. Can you imagine the sudden fear that strikes in their children’s hearts? Without proper emotional support these children can go on in life traumatized, marred with low self esteem, poor mental health, and in worst cases, suicide.
Walk With Sally, a 501 c(3) non-profit organization, aims to help by providing free mentoring programs that promote healing and comfort to children debilitated by the traumatic experience of living with or losing a parent or loved one to cancer. It was founded in 2005 by Nick Arquette in memory of his mom, Sally, whom he lost to breast cancer when he was a young boy.
With the launch of their new, improved website, Walk With Sally aims to reach and engage more people and businesses to take part in its noble cause. Sponsorship opportunities are available through participation in special events such as the Bowl-A-Thon, in-kind product donation, matching gift program, or volunteering for a special event or child activity.
Walk With Sally’s flagship Mentoring Program aims to match kids impacted by a loved one’s cancer with an adult who’s had a similar experience. This program enables kids to form friendships with their advocates who offer them advice and individualized attention they need. Another program, HeArt to Home, is an initiative to promote art healing in children – where each session gives a child an opportunity to explore his feelings or grieve through the art of expression. In its Temporary Family Support Program, Walk With Sally aims to enhance their mentoring support by reducing financial stresses in mentee families. Another key component of the mentoring program, Friendship Activities, aims to foster a sense of community through educational and experiential day-long, fun-filled events like whale watching, surfing, and ocean healing sessions.
Be an instrument in spreading hope to children affected by cancer. Walk with these children, Walk With Sally, and help one child at a time, one heart at a time.
