Each year Walk With Sally hosts four Friendship Activities for the mentors, mentees, families and prospective families. The Friendship Activities allow everyone in the program to budget a time for fun and provide a distraction from the daily trauma of experiencing a loved one battle through Cancer. This year, we hosted a day at the Long Beach Aquarium, took a Whale Watching boat tour and attended an Apple Movie Day. The Apple Movie Day gave the children the opportunity to learn about filming and editing using imovie.
In the next coming months, we are looking forward to partnering with the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation. This partnership is so exciting for us and for our kids because it offers coping techniques through ocean therapy and surfing.
It is also very cool to be able to provide a chance for our children to learn something new. Although at first the kids may be very timid and scared of the ocean, at the end of the day we always find that they do not want to leave. Lastly, we are wrapping up the year with a college campus tour of USC! Education is important to us and we want to make sure that our children are exposed to the possibilities of going to college and attending a University no matter where they come from or their current circumstances!
