Because of You

Last year at our Red, White & Brew, you Stood Up For A Friendship and we matched Steven and Josue on 6/16/2016. Now that they have celebrated their one year anniversary, they have a message for you from our Walk With Sally Jimmy Miller Surf Day!

These two have been through a lot. Brought together last June, Steven’s mother was diagnosed in 2010 with ovarian cancer. She battled and beat it, but it came back and spread causing her to lose her battle in 2015. It was an emotionally draining time for Steven and he wanted to be there to support a child going through similar hard ship. Josue was referred by his brother’s school counselor at Carlos Santa Arts Academy who was concerned he was heading down the wrong path. His mom is currently battling breast cancer, continues to put up a courageous fight and find time to ensure a positive future for her children. After this past year with Steven, here is what Josue said:

“My mentor has done a lot for me….
I’m grateful for being part of Walk With Sally and for meeting Steve. He helped me feel wanted and like someone cares about my future. He also helped me see some things different. Because I have my mentor, I think I can face any fear or thing that comes my way… I believe I can achieve so much in life, thanks to Steve!”

Because you stood up, you have changed the lives of both Steven and Josue. Thank You for believing in our vision that No Child Should Walk Alone In The Face of Cancer. The Walk With Sally Team
